THE MAP IS DONE!

It took a couple months of work, and a few more of waiting for good measure, but I've finally finished SS_Allan! All you need to play it is the map file, no extra textures, sounds, or models are needed - just drop the BSP in your maps directory and away you go! The readme is rather lengthy, so I've left it up to you to read yourself. Of course, links!

FileFront - SS_Allan
FPSBanana - SS_Allan (no FPSB link yet)
Learn2Play - SS_Allan

I started work on this map a few days before 1.1 was set to release, and I worked day and night retooling and balancing it for fun and fair gameplay - as well as some shiny looks to boot. However it took much, much longer than I had initially anticipated and as such I was unable to get it included with the SS 1.1 update. It would have helped too, this thing weighs in at over 40MB. Perhaps my lightmaps are too detailed..

Without further ado, I give you seven screens. 800x600 preview images, click for 1800x1350 full-size versions.

A few notes;
-The map is designed for between 10 and 16 people. Any less and the map becomes a bit sparse, too many more and it becomes a bit crowded.
-There is a hidden gameplay mode built right into the map - I've had it in there since Beta 1 and it works amazingly well.
-This map will try to represent the mod at one of it's most basic forms - Suiciders killing Survivors, Survivors fending of Suiciders.
-There have been many tweaks implemented to promote movement by both sides, and though hedging an area is possible - don't expect to survive long.. ;)

I thought I'd make a quick update, my playtesting session was a good eye-opener and has told me much about map flow with regards to shrubbery placement and ammo spawns. I have also optimized the map, it now looks better and is half the size it was before! I need to make a few alterations here and there before I have another playtesting session. In terms of progress the screenshots you see in the OP are from RC1, the previous build to that was Beta 1, and I'm currently working on RC3 (RC2 having just been playtested).

I'm sorry its taking so long to release this map, but I want to balance the map before it goes live in order to prevent things like "ss_allan_v2" - something like that makes it tougher for server admins and players to know what version is the latest one. If it were a map included in a mod update, then it could be updated and patched with each new release of the mod - but alas it isn't for the time being, so playtesting before release is the safest bet.

A few tidbits of info, though;
-This map uses custom textures and sprites.
-The prop shrubberies weigh 3.5x heavier than usual, this is done to reduce Survivor "hedging".
-Hint: The bridge you see in the screenshots is going to be a great defense spot, but take care as there's no ammo up there!

Look forward to another update in a day or two!

Thanks for the update. I'm considerung you taking time to balance and playtest the map a big plus.
